THE HISTORY OF OUR COLLEGE

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

“Seeking Knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim, be it male or female”, said Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon Him). Despite this unambiguous directive, the Muslim women have lagged far behind in education. Sincere and sustained efforts are needed to raise the level of education of the Muslim women. As education is the chief instrument of empowerment, it was felt that the best way to bring higher education to Muslim girls, in particular, Muslim girls from Melapalayam, is to start a college of Arts and Science. Accordingly, As-Sathiq Educational Society was formed and registered as a society on 20.09.2002.

It is the great act of generosity that Haji Er.S.K.Syed Ahamed, Haji.V.K.Mohamed Ghouse and Haji.Er.S.K.Kutha Mohamed willingly donated 3.05 acres of land owned by them for the noble purpose of establishing Annai Hajira Women’s College. It is our duty to thank the Tamil Nadu Government for sanctioning Annai Hajira Women’s College with Minority status through the G.O.Ms.No.306 dated 02.06.2004.

As the college fulfilled the requirements, the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University granted affiliation to the following programmes: B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Com. in the year 2004, B.Com.C.A. (Computer Application), B.A. English in 2011, B.Sc. Physics in 2015, B.Sc. Chemistry in the year 2018 and Since 2012, the college has been lifted up to the post graduate level by the introduction of M.Com.

The college is indebted to all the Vice Chancellors of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University which is the affiliating body and in particular, beholden to Prof.Dr.K.Chockalingam for conceding the initial affiliation to the College.

It is a golden day in the history of Melapalayam; the former Minister Mr.N.Nainar Nagendran inaugurated the college on 26.06.2004. The new building was inaugurated on 03.07.2005. The occasion was graced by the presence of former Minister Janab T.P.M. Mohideen Khan.

We are extremely grateful to our former Central Minister Thiru. R.Dhanushkodi Adithyan M.A., B.L., M.P. for his gesture of sanctioning Rs. 25 lakhs for the hostel building.

With the aid and blessings of the Philanthropists and donors, the Annai Hajira Women’s College, which is located in Melapalayam at a distance of 1.5 km from V.S.T.Pallivasal was emerged successfully on the Educational Map of Tirunelveli and is poised to become an excellent centre of Higher Education.

At present, 6 programmes are offered, namely B.Sc. Mathematics (2 Batches), B.Sc.Computer Science, B.Com.(2 Batches), B.A.English, B.Sc.Physics and B.Sc.Chemistry and about 500 students are studying in the College.

Annai Hajira Women’s College has grown the glorious heights within 18 years to become one of the premier institutions in Tirunelveli and enjoys a reputation of excellence in education by producing 208 university ranks and 9 Gold Medalists. It renders yeoman services to the under privileged and the needy in the Society irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The aim of the College is to provide quality education through innovative teaching and training methods to help the budding scholars to reach their heights intellectually.

The Deeniyat, Muballiga and the Moral Instructions are instilled in the students regularly and discipline which is the fundamental law of progress is taken utmost care. Career Guidance classes, which focus on Aptitude and Communication Skills, are conducted every week by our faculty and from the IAS Academy. Employment oriented certificate/add-on courses are also offered by all the departments.

NSS, RRC, YRC and HOPE (Hajira Outreaching Programme for Empowerment) are very active extracurricular and outreach programmes offered in the College to instil awareness of the present conditions of the globe and to serve the community.

Hostel: The College has established a full-fledged hostel which can accommodate about 200 students.

Transport and canteen facilities are also available in the Institution.
